Engineered Wood Construction – Why It Performs Better

Arista exterior doors are typically built using engineered hardwood construction rather than solid lumber. A solid wood slab expands, contracts, and can warp as humidity and temperature shift through Ontario’s seasons. Engineered construction layers wood with the grain running in different directions, which keeps the door dimensionally stable over time while still using a real hardwood face for the finished appearance. This is one of the biggest differentiators between an Arista door and a traditional solid-lumber door, and it is a major reason our doors hold their fit and finish year after year.

Our facility is located at 303 Supertest Road, North York, Toronto (ON) M3J 2M4. The showroom is open Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm. You can see wood species samples, finish options, hardware selections, and completed door examples in person. We recommend booking an appointment before visiting so our team can prepare for your specific project.

We serve clients throughout Markham, including Unionville, Cornell, and Cathedraltown, along with the rest of the Greater Toronto Area. For clients outside Ontario, we coordinate shipping from our North York facility anywhere in Canada and the continental USA.

Wood Species Available for Markham Projects

All Arista custom door projects use engineered hardwood construction with real hardwood faces. The species you choose determines the color, grain character, and final appearance of the door. Our commonly used species include:

• Sapele Mahogany — our most popular exterior species, valued for its interlocking grain, deep color, durability, dimensional stability, and long-term exterior performance.
• White Oak — our second most popular option, with a clean, contemporary grain that suits modern Markham homes.
• Red Oak — a durable and commonly used hardwood with warm tones that can offer a similar design direction to White Oak.
• Walnut — a luxury wood species with rich color and elegant grain, best suited for protected applications, since prolonged sun exposure may cause fading.
• Poplar — lightweight, paint-grade, and cost-effective, mainly used for interior applications.

Our team guides every client through species selection based on their design goals, the architectural context, and the exposure of the door. For exterior applications, sapele mahogany is consistently our top-performing and most requested species, with white oak a strong second choice for contemporary designs.
